3A Entrepreneurship Story

I have played competitive tennis since I was 10 years old, and eventually started working on a business with one of my coaches in 2014. The company, Diadem Sports, creates and sells sports equipment. Diadem was a startup company, so my coach and I put in a lot of work for the company. This included manufacturing, packaging, shipping, running the social media, and even recruiting a team of players to help out when he went out of town. Helping lead a startup  company was so fulfilling, and it helped me decide that I want to work with a startup when I’m older. Watching the company grow to an international one made me super excited for my future in the business world.

Given I was only 14 at the time, I still had so much to learn, and that is why I’m enrolled in ENT3003! I want to develop my skills as an entrepreneur and use the tools this class gives to benefit my career. I believe I will learn a lot this semester, and am very excited for the course!

2A Bugs

  1. Bug: The light on 13th street by Beaty and Sorority Row takes too long. Why: There isn’t normally much traffic coming from Beaty so the light is probably programmed to take longer.
  2. Bug: The line at the Chipotle on University is always so long no matter what hour. Why: The location of that chipotle is more convenient for most people so the lines are longer, also chipotle is super fast which makes it more appealing
  3. Bug: I can’t work out at the stadium on Fridays or Saturdays because it’s closed. Why: The stadium closes the Friday before a game and the Saturday of to give the workers enough time to set everything up.
  4. Bug: I have to wait for a treadmill in the beginning of the semesters at student recreation because it gets so crowded. Why: Student recreation gets crowded in the beginning of semesters because most people are trying to start good habits like working out
  5. Bug: The Starbucks in the hub is significantly worse than the other ones. Why: The location is so convenient for undergrad students, they probably occupy most of the staff and thereby have less experience.
  6. Bug: The extra fee on Uber eats is excessive since we are already paying a delivery fee. Why: The extra fee on Uber eats is there because the restaurant is further than average
  7. Bug: Grill fresh closed on University Ave. Why: Grill Fresh closed so the owner of the land could build something else, or it could’ve gone out of business especially since Just Salad was about to pop up.
  8. Bug: The lack of a student discount at most restaurants on campus (I.e. Piesanos). Why: Restaurants on campus need to stay in business to employ more students, and hence, don’t provide student discounts
  9. Bug: When Burgerfi puts lettuce and tomato on your burger via BiteSquad when you specifically said otherwise. Why: Sometimes the Burgerfi workers don’t read the extra comments that make adjustments
  10. Bug: UF Wifi is horrible. Why: There are so many kids on it at once, they can’t control it
  11. Bug: They make preview food so much better than normal to convince you to buy the meal plan. Why: They’re trying to get people to buy their food so they have to make the showcase night the best one
  12. Bug: UF doesn’t give out A+’s. Why: They try to standardize with other Florida schools so they don’t give out A+’s
  13. Bug: There is little parking on campus, and it is super expensive. Why: There are so many kids on campus that require so many buildings, making more parking would make less of other necessities (like bigger lecture halls, more places to live, etc).
  14. Bug: There is no coffee at Norman library. Why: They are understaffed or can’t afford to add another coffeeshop in the library
  15. Bug: It’s not safe on outskirts of campus. Why: They know the quality of living is cheap in college towns so a lot of homeless people are attracted to it
  16. Bug: SNAP drivers don’t follow an effective route. Why: SNAP drivers follow the route they’re supposed to, not the one that’s most convenient for the people in the car; they have to do their job correctly
  17. Bug: They don’t take card at the football games. Why: The vendors probably don’t want to deal with tax or may not have the money to run shop by card
  18. Bug: RTS stops early, but it isn’t safe to walk alone at night. Why: RTS stops early because the bus drivers shouldn’t have unreasonable hours
  19. Bug: Greek Life controls student government political parties. Why: Greek life votes for the party that is pro greek life, and it’s a vast majority that takes the vote.
  20. Bug: They need to put a crosswalk by Marston so students don’t J- walk. Why: UF has so many constructions sites currently, adding any more is probably outside of the budget.
Reflection:

Although it was easy to come up with the why’s regarding most of my bugs, some were very difficult, as there is a simple solution to the problem. Additionally, coming up with the why’s helped me visualize a solution. Overall, I didn’t realize how many bugs I had until I listed them all out, and am now fully aware of both the problems and how they can be solved!
